Alliance Benefits to Israel
A glance at the map of Eastern Mediterranean Sea is enough to make one marvel over how Israel has been able to survive despite the avalanche of enemies dreaming for its extinction. But relations with the one country in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea that does not feel threatened by the presence of Israel were cool for over half a century. In the 2010 alliance, Israel is able to count on practical benefits.
Tourism – Israel features so many sites that are unique for Greeks! Their religious and historical significance and attraction will never end. In addition, warm weather, exotic sites, and modern day advances create a powerful combination for winter and holiday travel for Greeks.
Trade – Israel already sells to Greece goods valued at more than $200 million and further expansion into industrial and scientific products could make Greece a greater market. The sale of natural gas would be a boost to both economies, and technological products and processes present a unique opportunity.
EU -- Utilizing Greece as a gateway to the European Union, gives a distinct benefit to Israel. If a natural gas pipeline on the sea floor connects Israeli Mediterranean Sea gas fields with Greece, then the latter could be Israel’s natural gas depot, in the sale of gas to Eastern and Western European countries.
Strategic advantages – Israeli airspace is small and Israeli pilots are already using Greece’s airspace and are training with Greek pilots.
Security -- An Eastern Mediterranean whose domestic waters (Greece and Cyprus) are vigilently patrolled against terrorists are a significant benefit to Israel, expecially in anticipation of the increased drilling for natural gas and a planned pipeline.
